Multitasking

Once the school year begins, I become a very skilled multitasker. Well, skilled is sometimes debatable but I do multitask quite frequently. I catch up with friends on the phone while folding laundry, I create unit plans while dinner is cooking, and I even read guided reading books on the treadmill. Sometimes all this multitasking leaves me feeling a little scattered. Occasionally I'll find folded socks in the pantry or a recipe mixed in with my lesson plans but for the most part, multitasking helps to maximize my free time. For example, today I had dinner on the stove while I ran back and forth to the bathroom to straighten my hair after a post-gym shower. This was probably both slightly unsanitary and unsafe (I had several stove/flat-iron induced burns by the time I sat down to eat) but it did give me an hour of free time to watch the Real Housewives of New Jersey Reunion on DVR... priorities people!

However, there are some times during the day when it is important to take in the moment and NOT multitask. I am trying to get up 15 minutes earlier every morning this year so I can enjoy a quiet breakfast at home before heading out the door. This is easier said than done sometimes when the alarm starts blaring at 5:17am but I did manage to do it this morning.

I savored my multitask-free and delicious oatmeal before getting on the road.

Pear-Fig Oatmeal with Almond Butter

First day of school picture (Pat insists on taking these on the 1st day of every school year no matter how tired my eyes look)

School day snack

Leftover chickpea curry and broccolini with brown basmati rice for lunch

Dinner had to be quick and easy because I also had to focus on drying my hair and responding to emails... Multitask Super Set! I cooked up some Trader Joe's couscous in vegetable broth and added some frozen veggies. Simple, nutritious and most importantly... yummy!

Not quite the same as organic red wine but still a good dinner refreshment.
After the busy day I've had, the only multitasking I'll be doing for the rest of the evening is dreaming, snoring and perhaps some drooling (don't say ew- you know you do it too).
Goodnight my blog world friends : )

  1. I love the Harvest Grain Blend! My mom introduced me to it a couple years ago and I fell in love with it. In fact I am making it tonight. I am going to have it with a side of roasted balsamic brussels sprouts.

  3. Let me know how the brussel sprouts are and how you made them... I am getting some with my CSA delivery tomorrow and I have yet to find a way to prepare brussel sprouts that makes me fall in love.

  5. Oh I LOVE them. They are one of my new favorites. I chopped them up (not super small or very uniform), then I put them in a skillet with a tiny bit of olive oil so they would not stick, then I put some balsamic vinegar with salt and pepper and that was all. I think they are absolutely great, but that is just me.
