Found: 1 Old Grocery List

So I have a serious confession to make. As many of you probably already know from some of the things I have said on my blog, I am a complete dork (maybe you knew I was a dork just by the fact that I have a blog but that’s another story altogether). Anyway, among other things, what makes me a dork is that one of my FAVORITE parts of the week is my Sunday trip to the grocery store. Seriously, I get giddy when I walk through the doors of Whole Foods or TJs.

Although I’m sure Patrick doesn’t love that it sometimes takes me hours to peruse recipes and select ingredients in the produce aisle, I think he is grateful that I am debating between collard greens or kale rather than Marc Jacobs or Coach ; )

Remember honey, Whole Foods is much less dangerous than BLOOMINGDALES!

Anyway, I am still without a camera, but I do have something different to share with you today. When I was packing my bag tonight (Jersey bound in the am) I found an old grocery list in my carry on backpack. Many of you have asked me questions about ingredients or products I use on the blog, so I thought this might be helpful. The list was from a random week so it is unedited. Consider it an intimate peek into my kitchen cabinet. Ooooo now we’re getting scandalous…

The list is divided into the two major stores I shop at. While Whole Foods has a larger selection, some things are MUCH cheaper at Trader Joe's so I always make a trip to both.

WHOLE FOODS

Baby Bok Choy

Great for Asian dishes and stir fry

Broccolini
Much better than regular broccoli if you ask me...
1 Zucchini
1 Yellow Squash
2 peppers (red and yellow)
Shitake Mushrooms

Kale
At some point I need to post my kale chip recipe... even Patrick will eat them over Fritos ; )

Snap Peas
Delicious for a snack alone or with dippers!

Red Pepper Hummus
Cherries
6 Peaches
3 Kiwis
Bananas
Marinara Sauce
Whole wheat pizza crust

Daiya Mozzarella
This stuff gets all stretchy and pully like real cheese but I like to mix it with the Galaxy Cheese below for optimal flavor. I DO NOT like soy cheese. Neither of these is a soy product.

Galaxy Rice Cheese
Shredded real mozzarella (for Patrick)

Whole wheat tortillas
Perfect for throwing leftovers into and creating a quick lunch to-go

Spelt english muffins
PEANUT BUTTER CO.
Yes, this actually appeared in caps on the real list. I may have also circled it... ten times

Tempeh
This is a tasty non-soy meat alternative. It is made from whole grains and has a rich, meaty flavor. This type is pre-marinated for lazy nights but you can also buy the plain kind and come up with your own sauce.

Soba Noodles
Whole grain for Asian dishes like Lo Mein

Shoyu Sauce
Again, for Asian dishes (this must have been the week I got my new Asian cookbook from Williams-Sonoma)

Eden Assorted Beans
These beans are great because they have NO ADDED SALT and are cooked with Kombu Seaweed which helps to eliminate the gassy effect and has some pretty significant health benefits

Coconut Yogurt
Soy yogurt is icky but this stuff is delish in smoothies, baking, etc.
Greek yogurt (for Patrick)

Unsweetened Almond Milk
The flavored kinds have evaporated cane juice which is just unnecessary added sugar. They can be tasty in baked goods though.
TRADER JOE'S

Prunes
Cashews
Almonds
Dates

Brown Rice
Though I try to minimize frozen food, this stuff is just too damn convenient.

Frozen blueberries
Frozen strawberries
Frozen raspberries
Frozen mango
Frozen pineapple
Some intense smoothie making must have happened this week... yummmmm
THE END

All of this blogging has gotten me very excited to restock the refrigerator and get back to my kitchen…

Enough of Vegas, I’d take fresh produce over blackjack any day! Good thing Bloomingdale's isn't too far from TJs. I heard they are having a sale ; )

Happy shopping.
